Midway through the season, there will be a tournament from September 10-14 at a destination yet to be named.
PokerStars revealed that Season 6 exceeded $9.7 million prize pools and 4,000 players in the Main Events. There were players from 62 countries in action, and the season recorded a 25% year-on-year growth.
Hollywood Producer Sues for Gambling Debt
According to CardPlayer via TMZ, longtime poker enthusiast and Hollywood director Nick Cassavetes is suing Kevin Washington for $217,800 for a gambling debt.
Washington reportedly tried to pay off the debt with a check for $72,600 but stopped payment on the check through the bank. Washington never repaid Cassavetes.
Atlantic Club Casino Sold and Approved
The Atlantic Club Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was up for auction in December, and several days of no bids finally resulted in a joint offer from Tropicana and Caesars Entertainment.
The two companies offered $23.4 million for the casino/hotel property, and a judge subsequently approved the sale. Though a workers’ union protested the deal due to the promise to shut down the casino and hotel and put many people out of work, the deal was approved.
Tropicana plans to gather the tables and slot machines for use in other properties, and Caesars intends to use the casino and hotel for other purposes, which means closing them both to the public.
