PartyPoker Premier League Recap

Shak’s Spoils Reinkemeier’s Party

Another day and another all-star showdown at PartyPoker’s Premier League saw Tobias Reinkemeier come agonisingly close to another Group B victory.

Having dominated the first heat, the German pro was certainly the man to beat going into the second match.

While Tobias was looking for another maximum points haul, Tony G was simply looking to improve on his last place finish in Heat 1. Such a feat wasn’t going to be too tough, but after a decent start the charismatic pro hit the rail in a double elimination.

After watching a severely short stacked Phil Laak move all-in, Tony decided to follow suit with A-J. Upping the ante to 238,000 from the small blind, he found a willing caller in Talal Shakerchi holding pocket tens.

With his tournament life hanging in the balance, a [2h] [Td] [7c] flop propelled Shakerchi into an even greater lead. The [Qc] on the turn gave Tony a glimmer of hope, but that light was quickly extinguished when the [2d] fell on the river.

Out of chips and out of patience, Tony made a hasty exit, remarking that he shouldn’t have sat down to play.

With Tony and Phil Laak now watching from the rail, it was time for Dan Shak to make his move. As the field thinned, thanks to Jennifer Tilly and Shakerchi hitting the rail in succession, it was Shak who found himself in command.

However, coming off a win in Heat 1 had obviously imbued Reinkemeier with a certain amount of confidence as he quickly took the lead from his rival. While lesser men would have crumbled, Shak dug his heels in and managed to redress the balance before recapturing the chip lead.

The thwarted coup left Reinkemeier in trouble and forced him into a desperate shove with [Jh] [7d]. Shak was able to afford the bet and after the board failed to help Reinkemeier, it was Shak and his [Kc] [4h] that scooped the pot and the match.

Today sees the return of Group A as they battle for another selection of cash and points inside Aspers Casino.
