Sam Trickett on the UK Poker Championship, GPS Birmingham Begins

DTD Reaching for the Sky with New Championship

The Sky Poker UK Poker Championship is gearing up for its first ever event next week and, ahead of festival, a number of European pros have been drooling at the prospect of a £500,000 Main Event.

Set to get underway on February 17th and run through until February 23rd, the low and mid-stakes festival is expected to welcome a large number of grinders from across the UK and parts of Europe.

One player who will definitely be joining the action will be Sam Trickett. The British superstar is one of the festival’s ambassadors and he will take part in the Main Event which kicks off on February 19th.

As well as the Main Event with its £500,000 guarantee, the Sky Poker UK Poker Championship will also feature a £3,000 High Roller as well as a slew of lower priced events, including a £500 PLO tournament as well as a high octane 6-max event.

The organisers are hoping that the allure of big money prizepools and Dusk Till Dawn’s reputation for excellence will help many of the tournaments exceed their guarantees.

Indeed, commenting on the event, Sam Trickett said:

I am delighted that the Sky Poker UK Poker Championships are coming to Dusk Till Dawn, the club where it all began for me. This event has been a long time coming and it will be great to have an official championship like other countries do. I will be playing the High Roller, Heads Up and the Main Event, but there are also other championship events if I am unsuccessful in those. Really looking forward to working with Sky Poker and Dusk Till Dawn to promote this event.”

GPS Season 3 Starts Today

The Genting Poker Series got underway earlier today with the first leg of its third season. Having already established itself as one of the top national tours, the tour will now be looking to increase its presence with another successful year on the road.

Today’s first stop takes place inside Birmingham’s Genting Club Star City Casino and so far a number of familiar faces have been seen at the venue, including last year’s champion Julian Thew.

The popular British pro managed to overcome 590 players in 2013 to scoop £40,120 and another tournament title in his native country.

With a guaranteed prizepool of £125,000 and three starting flights the organisers are hoping this year’s GPS Birmingham will attract more players than last year by the time registration closes on Friday.
