Shak’s Premier League Title; Stars Stay Out for Sky Poker Tour

Shak Claims Premier League Title

Dan Shak became the latest player to lift PartyPoker’s Premier League trophy, yesterday, after defeating the UK’s Sam Trickett heads-up.

The $450,000 win was the third largest of his career and pushes his overall earnings over the $5 million mark.

Having had mixed fortunes in the preliminary rounds, Shak came into his own at the final table and put together a string of pots that would ultimately propel him to the title.

Indeed, it was the elimination of Antonio Esfandiari in third place that set him on the path the Premier League glory.

After watching his opponent move all-in, Shak decided to call with [Ac] [2d]. The initial outcome was certainly to the liking of Esfandiari who held pocket nines, however, as the hand developed things quickly changed.

After the dealer had spread the [2c] [7c] [Qd] [6s] board, the [Ad] on the river brought an end to Esfandiari’s chances of another tournament title.

Buoyed by his slice of fortune, Shak went on to battle back-and-forth with Trickett before duping his opponent with an unorthodox move.

With 200,000 chips in the pot and the board reading: [2h] [8h] [As] [Ts] [7h], Shak moved all-in for over 1 million chips holding [Qh] [4h].

Clearly perplexed by the move, Trickett went into the tank for 10 minutes before emerging with a reluctant call. After tabling [Th] [2d] for two pair, Trickett slipped into the shadows as Shak basked in the glow of the winner’s spotlight.

Flamand Beats Host of Stars in Sky Poker Tour

Aspers Casino might have waved goodbye to the WPT and PartyPoker Premier League recently, but that didn’t mean an end to the action inside one of London’s newest casinos.

After opening their doors to Sky Poker’s popular low stakes tour, a record-breaking 267 players paid their £200 entry fee to the cashier and sat down for a day of poker.

With the prizepool set at £53,400, the eventual winner would walk away with £11,905. However, the route to victory certainly wouldn’t be easy as the likes of Mclean Karr, James Dempsey, Julian Thew, Dave Shallow and Tatjana Pasalic were all in attendance.

Stopping in the city after their recent EPT and WPT exploits, the contingent of pros tried their best to make an impression on the tournament but, ultimately, came up short.

Indeed, while the famous faces watched from the bar, it was Aaron Flamand who rose to the top of the chip counts.

After jostling for position with Chris Love, Flamand finally took down the title when his king-high flush bested the lesser flush of his opponent.

With the tournament done and dusted the poker chip were packed away ready for the next  Sky Poker Tour event in Dublin on May 11.
