WPT Emperors Palace Classic: Brits Wins Main Event

The buzz surrounding a history-making event at the WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic was soon over as a South African man made sure that the title would stay at home…

BRITS DOES IT

Emperors PalaceThe two chip leaders heading into final table play – Eugene du Plessis (GPI#2475) and Daniel Brits (GPI#-) – would end up heads-up fighting for the title. In the end, it’s Brits, the unranked poker player from South Africa, who ends up taking the title.

Before this big win, Brits had only two cashes on the live tournament circuit: a 9th place finish at a APPT Macau Deepstack event earlier this season and a 17th place finish in a WSOP Circuit South Africa prelim event in 2012, neither of which qualified for GPI points.

Brits took out two of most experienced players early as Dominik Nitsche (GPI#54) and Wesley Wiegand (GPI#11114) – who both final tabled the WPT Emperors Palace Classic in 2012 – finished fourth and fifth respectively.

NITSCHE’S RECORD NIXED

Dominik Nitsche GPITHE story entering the final table was certainly Nitsche’s attempt at a second WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic Championship in a row, a feat that has never been accomplished in WPT history.

The young German came a bit short when he was eliminated in fourth position by the eventual winner. Still, a fantastic effort by Nitsche who continues to prove why he’s one of the best players on the live tournament circuit.

We’re sure that Nitsche isn’t anywhere close to being done with his 2013 poker season … with a few big events still left to be played this year look for Nitsche to be contending in at least one of them as season draws to a close.

The World Poker Tour schedule heats up in the coming weeks. After South Africa, the tour moves to the Americas as the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble, WPT Caribbean and PartyPoker WPT Montreal will all take place in the coming weeks with the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas, WPT Korea and bwin WPT Prague are still left to be played in the the 2013 portion of Season XII.
