GUKPT Goliath Round-Up

Skidmore Claims GUKPT Goliath Title

Last week it became the largest European tournament in history and yesterday the Jake Skidmore became the champion of the largest European tournament in history.

After seven days of grinding the English grinder managed to skip through a tough final table and bank the largest score of his career.

Yesterday’s final session got off to a flying start when Dan Arbon and Kevin Stevens hit the rail within ten minutes of the start.

Arbon was the first to hit the rail after he moved all-in As Kd and was unable to find a way past Dan Cullen’s pocket queens as the board rolled out: Qs 6d Jd 4h 3s board.

Following Cullen’s quick exit the table barely had time to catch its breath before Kevin Stevens was following suit; ironically with the same hand that caused the demise of Cullen.

Indeed, after moving all-in Ac Kd, Stevens found himself in trouble and unable to respond to Robert Trueman’s attack with pocket tens. With that he was sent to the cashiers’ desk to collect his eighth place prize just before Trueman suffered the same fate.

After suffering a rush of Adrenaline, Trueman was the next to fall courtesy of a mistimed bluff with 9h 4c. Despite displaying a show of strength pre-flop, Trueman was left blushing as the Qd Ac 5d 5c 3c board gave his opponent, Jiri Sladkovsky, enough of a hand with Ad Tc to oust him from the tournament area.

A slew if eliminations followed Trueman’s exit and by the time the twilight hours had taken hold it was Sladkovsky and Jake Skidmore left with just one more battle to fight.

Having whittled the table to a more manageable figure, it was time for Skidmore to assert his dominance and as the field thinned further he was able to capture the chip lead going into a heads-up match with Sladkovsky.

Now holding an insurmountable lead Skidmore was able to claim his first major title after his opponent moved all-in with Kd Qd. After a raising war pre-flop the Czech grinder put his life on the line against Skidmore’s Ad Td.

Now at risk of elimination Sladkovsky could only watch as the board ran out: Qc 2h Jd 3c Ks and the remainder of his chips, as well as the £56,540 top prize, were pushed towards Skidmore.

GUKPT Goliath Final Result:

1st Jake Skidmore – £56,540
