WSOP 2013 Latest, The $500k Bracelet & Manchester’s Casino Upgrade

Harwood and Alaei Claim Titles

Events #60 and #61 came to a close earlier today and when the confetti had settled both Loni Harwood and Daniel Alaei were left standing victorious.

First to claim a coveted gold bracelet, as well as the honour of being only the second female bracelet winner in an open event this year, was Hardwood.

After making her way past more than 2,500 players, the American grinder managed to overcome Yongshuo Zheng to bank $609,017 and her first WSOP title.

The win was Harwood’s sixth cash of this year’s Series, taking her total winnings to $874,698.

As Harwood was establishing herself as one of the top emerging female players in the world, Alaei was coming through a tough final table in the $10,000 PLO event.

After a veritable war of attrition against the likes of Alexander Kravchenko and Tom Marchese, Alaei was finally able to overcome Jared Bleznick with a full house.

On the very first hand of their heads-up match the two players committed their stacks on a [7h] [4s] [2c] [Th] board and as the cards were revealed it was Alaei who was leading with [Td] [Tc] [4c] [3h] against Bleznick’s [Kd] [7d] [6s] [5c].

As the [2d] fell on the river Alaei’s set turned into a full house, allowing the dealer to push the final pot his way along with the $852,692 top prize.

Brunson Honoured as Main Event Bling Sparkles

Before Day 1B of this year’s WSOP Main Event got underway the organisers took a moment to honour Doyle Brunson. As a testament to his many years of success at the WSOP, a bronze bust of the legendary player was unveiled before an audience of respectful grinder.

The presentation was followed by a brief speech from Doyle before he sat down with more than 1,900 other players to contest the second opening day of the Main Event.

While Doyle was being immortalised inside the Rio, this year’s WSOP Main Event bracelet was being unveiled across the Las Vegas strip inside the Cosmopolitan.

Designed by Jason of Beverly Hills, the exclusive bracelet has been made with more than 200 grams of 14 carat white gold and is encrusted with over 28 carats of white diamonds.

With an estimated value of $500,000, the commemorative piece of jewellery is worth significantly more than previous Main Event bracelets and is the most expensive sports trophy in the world.

Manchester’s Poker Room Refurbishment

Manchester’s Grosvenor G Casino has just completed a major refurbishment of its poker room, making it the largest in the UK’s Northwest.

Set to be unveiled on July 12th, the £1,700,000 project is part of a complete upgrade of the Manchester casino.

Capable of seating 240 players across 24 tables, it’s hoped the new venue will become a hub for local grinders thanks to a slew of cash games, tournaments and private tuition set to run on a regular basis.

To mark the occasion, the poker room will be offering a series of promotions throughout July, including £15,500 in guaranteed tournament money on offer every week.
