John Eames

John Eames is a British professional poker player who made his first live-event cash in 2007. In the first 5 years, John cashed 46 times, made 23 final tables, won 5 events, cashed at the WSOP 8 times, and earned over $1.4 million. During that time he was also a successful online poker player, earning over $1.5.

Born in 1988, John started feeding his competitive spirit as teenager by becoming a professional snooker player. In 2005, he was ranked 4th in the Mexican Carom Snooker league and holds the world-record for the fastest under-16 147 break ever at 7 minutes and 42 seconds.

John started playing poker in the local clubs near his home in Southport, Sefton in the UK, and online as “johne147” at all the major poker sites. A few of his many accomplishments were in October 2007, when he took down the UB $200k Guaranteed for $45,000, winning the PokerStars $100 Rebuy for $22,000, and final tabling the PokerStars Sunday Million for $34,000 in 2008.

In 2007, John made his first live-event cash when he finished 19th in the $5,000 NLHE Main Event at the UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic to earn $18,605. His next cashes were in 2008, when he cashed twice at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Brighton, where he won the £100 NLHE for £4,020. He also cashed at the Scottish Poker Championships, and the Dusk Till Dawn Anniversary Cup Nottingham.

John’s break out year occurred in 2009, when he cashed 10 times, and made 7 final tables winning one event. He began his year with a 3rd place finish for €26,500 in the €1,500 Main Event at the European Deepstack Poker Championship, followed by a runner-up finish in the £1,000 NLHE at the Broadway Festival for £30,030. After finishing 4th for €15,500 in the €1,500 NLHE at the Full Tilt Poker Series Spain, John made his biggest cash of the year of £38,468 for his 5th place finish in the £3,010 NLHE at the English Poker Open. Then in November, he won the Broadway Casino Poker Festival Main Event to earn £28,000.

John solidified his standing as a top professional in 2010 with over $500,000 in tournament earnings throughout Europe. He began the year with a 4th place finish in the €2,500 NLHE at the Euro City Poker Tour Barcelona to earn €50,000. At the WSOP, he cashed once, and at the WSOP Europe, he made the money in the Main Event. John finished the year by winning the EPT Vienna for €123,500, finishing runner-up for €78,300 in the €2,000 NLHE at the EPT Barcelona, and winning the Full Tilt Poker Series Grand Final to earn €75,000.

In 2011, John cashed 17 times, starting with 3 cashes at the Aussie Millions, and a 3rd place finish for DKr1,400,000 in the DKr 35,000 NLHE Main Event at the EPT Copenhagen. The next month, he cashed at the Monte Carlo Nottingham, and took 8th in the €3,200 NLHE Main Event at the Irish Open to earn €45,000. After cashing at the EPT San Remo, John cashed at the Deep Stack Extravaganza, and 3 times at the WSOP, where his best finish was 15th in the $1,000 NLHE to earn $29,743.

At the 2011 WSOP Europe in Cannes, John cashed 3 times, finishing 7th for €22,449 in the €1,000 NLHE, and finished 20th for €37,000 in the Main Event.  To end the year, he cashed at the Coral Late Night Poker, and cashed twice at the EPT Prague, where he won the €2,000 NLHE to earn €101,750.

To start 2012, in January John cashed at the Euro Finals of Poker in Paris.

When John takes a break from poker, he likes to play snooker and relax at home.
