Martin Jacobson is a Swedish professional poker player who made his first live-event cash in 2008. In the first 4 years, Martin cashed 23 times, made 13 final tables, won an ANZPT event, made the money in 6 WSOP events, and earned over $2.7 million. During that time he was also a successful online poker player.
Born in June 30, 1987, Martin was raised in Sweden where he aspired to be chef. He was introduced to poker when he was 18 by watching it on television, and soon he was playing home games and playing free games online. Once he got used to online poker, he made a deposit and started playing small-stakes cash games and entering tournaments. His plans to move to Barcelona and work his way up to top chef at a three-star Michelin restaurant were sidetracked when a promised job offer never materialized, so he started devoting himself to poker.
Martin started playing on PokerStars as “m.nosbocaJ” in 2008 and over the next few years, he would show consistent results, earning over $300,000. Recent victories include winning a $109 NLHE for $30,787, and taking down a Big $55 for $20,382 in December 2011.
Although Martin did well in cash games and tournaments, it was while playing online satellite qualifiers to big live-events that he found his niche in 2008. The first satellite qualifier he won was for the WSOP, and although he failed to cash in Las Vegas, he became hooked on qualifiers as the perfect way to be able to play live events cheap. Next, he won a ticket to the EPT London, but again failed to cash at the event.
Never one to give up, Martin registered for a last chance satellite to the 2008 EPT Budapest on PokerStars and won the prize package. Playing in just the 3rd live tournament of his career, he finished 3rd in the EPT €4,000 NLHE Main Event to collect his first live-event cash of €197,904. The next month, his other cash of the year was at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam.
Martin cashed 5 times in 2009, starting at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). He then finished runner-up for $36,781in the $1,000 NLHE Mega Stack Championship in Las Vegas, took 6th to earn €42,400 in the €5,000 NLHE 6-Max at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, and finished runner-up in the €4,000 NLHE Main Event at the WPT Venice for €238,840. Back in Las Vegas for the WSOP, he finished 8th in a $1,500 NLHE event to earn $65,486.
In 2010, Martin cashed 4 times, including his first WSOP final table. At the WSOP, he cashed twice, finishing 4th in the $1,500 NLHE for $183,345.
For his last cash of the year, Martin was at the EPT Vilamoura, where he finished runner-up in the €5,000 NLHE Main Event to earn €297,985. For his accomplishments in 2010, Martin finished runner-up for EPT Player of The Year, and won the title of Online Qualifier of the Year after qualifying online for 6 EPT events and final tabling 3 of them.
In January 2011, won an EPT Deauville prize package, which he turned into a runner-up finish in the Main Event, out of 891 players, earning €560,000. After cashing in the Main Event at EPT Copenhagen, he earned SKr303,800 for finishing 3rd in the Main Event at the Nordic Masters of Poker, and cashed twice at the EPT Berlin, including 4th in the Main Event for €230,000.
At the 2011 WSOP, Martin cashed 3 times, including a 25th place finish in a $1,500 NLHE event to earn $15,950. He ended the year with cashes at the EPT Barcelona, the EPT San Remo, and a 6th place finish in the €7,500 NLHE at the WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris for €88,900.
In January, Martin made his first cash of 2012 at the PCA, where he finished 10th in the $10,000 NLHE Main Event to collect $101,000.
Known for his calm demeanor at the tables, Martin is a great role model for up and coming poker players by always showing great respect for other players and the game. Now living in Islington, North London, he just bought a flat, which he shares with his girlfriend. Since he loves to travel, Martin likes living near London for the convenient transportation options. When he is not playing poker around the world or qualifying for events online, Martin enjoys UFC fighting, eating well, partying, and having fun.
